Which Steam ID do I need?

Most sites and games want the SteamID64, the long number starting with 7656. Older games and server tools use the Steam2 form (STEAM_0:…) or the Steam3 form ([U:1:…]). This page gives you all of them.

Where do I find my profile link?

Open Steam, click your name at the top, then Profile. The address in your browser is your profile link. Paste it here as it is, custom name or not.

What is the account number?

The number Steam gave the account when it was made, which the other id forms are built from. Lower numbers are older accounts.

Does a private profile work?

Yes. The ids never depend on privacy. A private profile just shows fewer details, like when it was made.
