What these events mean for your launch
Steam Next Fest is a week-long festival of demos for games that have not launched yet. It happens three times a year, in February, June and October; sign-up runs through Steamworks before a deadline, and each game can take part once. Thousands of demos compete for attention that week, which makes it a great moment to win wishlists and a crowded one to launch into.
Seasonal sales fill the store with discounts on games players already know. New releases have to compete with those deals for attention, so many developers keep their launch clear of the big sales.
Themed festivals celebrate one kind of game, from rhythm games to couch co-op. If your game fits the theme, it can be a chance to be featured next to games like it. Each festival page shows the tags it is looking for and the upcoming games that fit.
