How it works

Tags players browse

Players find new games through tags. See the ones most games like yours carry, so you show up in the same places they do.

What makes yours different

Spot the tags that set your game apart, the things your capsule and trailer should shout about.

A price that fits

See what similar games sell for, the most popular price and how many are on sale, before you set yours.

How Steam tags help players find you

Tags are how Steam understands your game. A game can show up to 20 of them, and they describe its genre, its themes, its mood and how it plays. Players browse and filter the store by tags, so the right ones put your game in front of people already looking for something like it.

Steam also uses tags to recommend games, which means they shape where your game appears next to others. Share the tags your closest rivals carry and you show up in the same places they do; add the ones that set you apart and you give players a reason to pick yours.

One rule matters more than any other: only use tags that truly describe your game. The right players find you, and they're the ones who stay, play and leave good reviews.

How many tags can a Steam game have?

Up to 20. Players can suggest tags for a game too, so it's worth looking over your store page now and then to make sure the tags still describe it well.

Should I add every tag on the list?

No. Only add tags that truly describe your game. A tag that doesn't fit brings in players looking for something else, and they won't stick around. Treat the list as a reminder of tags you may have missed, not a shopping list.

How should I price my indie game on Steam?

Start with what games like yours sell for. The check shows the typical price, the most popular price and how many similar games are on sale today, so you can set a price that feels fair next to the games players will compare you with.

Which games do you compare mine with?

The 30 games most like yours on Steam, matched by the tags you share. For the price check we look at the ones already out.

Is it free?
