That is because tracking a game here never changes anything about it. Your games, rivals and alerts are private to you and your team, and other members never see which games you follow. Others can plan around the same game too, just as anyone can open its Steam page.
Your own numbers stay yours. Sales and wishlists only come in through your own Steamworks connection, so nobody sees them by adding your game.
